Zane Ray Group, Whitefish, Montana

Our philosophy toward our clients is simple: Increase sales, save money, and always be moving ahead. We regard all of our relationships with our clients as long-term. Although it's a cliche to say "your success is ours", it happens to be true as we see our clients continue to work with us based on the success of the partnership.

We aren't big and omnipresent like an IBM, or Fry Multimedia, and we wouldn't call our location "mainstream" in Northwest Montana. But I don't think you'd find finer talent assembled in one place anywhere. ZaneRay probably has more experience per-capita than any web multi-media team you'll ever encounter. Nobody on the technical staff has less than ten years experience at what we do, and some of us are going on 20. Most of us are corporate ex-pats with degrees in marketing, business, engineering, and computer science. We have people with expertise in everything from complex hardware configuration, to expertise in designing enterprise systems. And while we aren't huge, we do happen to be big enough to tackle about anything.

Our business is based on serving clients with unique and/or difficult-to-fulfill needs. Most of our projects are second or third generation efforts with many having complex legacy system integration issues. More than a few of our clients have worked with other vendors who have tried and failed to accomplish what our clients desired.

We're always looking ahead. Early on, we recognized the need to create a set of reusable software components to use in our efforts. Our clients weren't asking for this. But while it would have been easier (and more lucrative) to build one-off solutions for our clients, we recognized that creating web sites from proven building blocks would create greater long-term value - fewer bugs, less maintenance costs. It has been a huge investment on ZaneRay's part to create these tools. We engineered these tools for flexibility, because we wanted to be able to adapt them to our client's unique requests, vs. the other way around.

Our experience has given us the knowledge to anticipate our client's futures. We have seen how the web has altered the paradigms of a company's business, and while a client may not be asking for it today, we make sure that things like multi-lingual abilities, and closer integration with backend systems are built into the project, or can be added later without undue effort.

Much of the value of what we do is behind-the-scenes. For example, we recognize the tremendous ROI realized from the proper integration of a web site with backend sales and distribution systems, or the ROI with giving non-technical staff control of their web site vs. having to involve technical staff to make changes.

We are very flexible in what we provide for our clients. It's very typical for our clients to have an ad agency or in-house talent that they want involved in the project for continuity-of-design's sake. No problem. We prefer to involve in-house IT staff in projects, as they are best suited and most cost effective for the ongoing support of a web site's systems integration.
